ChordBud 2 AUv3 MIDI Sequencer
ChordBud 2 is a MIDI chord sequencer that allows users to quickly create unique chord progressions. With a powerful music theory engine that supports over 40 scales, users can easily select the scales they want to work with and view them on one screen. The chords within each scale are displayed from left to right, allowing users to compare scales and borrow chords from each other through modal interchange.
The app provides all the chords within a selected scale by default, but users can also choose a specific chord progression from the settings menu. Users have the flexibility to work with multiple patterns, each with different keys, scales, and chord progressions. Patterns can be copied, pasted, and deleted by long-pressing them, and can be triggered using MIDI CC messages, enabling automation and song creation.
ChordBud 2 goes beyond triad chords, offering a wide range of chord modifications including add/susand more. Users can modify chords in real-time while the sequencer is playing, allowing for immediate feedback and experimentation. The timeline feature allows users to move chords to change their position and adjust their duration by dragging from the right edge. Zooming in and out is possible for precise positioning, and subdivisions can be used for finer adjustments.
It's worth noting that ChordBud 2 offers its core components for free on Github, allowing users to create their own music app by forking the code. The MIDI layer of the standalone app is powered by the open-source AudioKit framework.
Please note that ChordBud 2 is a MIDI sequencer app and does not produce sound itself. To hear the generated chords, users need to route ChordBud 2's MIDI Out to their audio app's MIDI In and arm the sequencer.
